Association for Sustainable Community Development (ASSCOD)
: Association for Sustainable Community Development (ASSCOD) is a registered development organisation working for women empowerment in the rural areas of Tamilnadu (India). Under their ASSCOD Women Development Project, they organized 100 well performing women Self Help Groups (SHGs) with 2000 women members.
The organization also builds the capacity of women in 4 major areas, understanding the concept of Self Help, leadership management, Accounts and Networking (Linkages). The major activities of the women groups are thrift and credit(Micro Financing Activities).

: The Indian School of Microfinance for Women shall cater to the capacity building needs of the various stakeholders of the School, like CBFI (Community Based Financial Institution) members and leaders, NGO/MFI staff and trainers, bankers and policy-makers. One of the focus areas of the School shall be to build the managerial capabilities of the women leadership in microfinance sector. It will also act as a bridge between the mainstream financial institutions and the CBFIs, helping them work together. It will create a cadre of trained managers and leaders who will further the microfinance movement.

Lok Capital
: The "Lok Capital" (or People's Capital) initiative was launched at the end of 2001 with a grant support from the Rockefeller Foundation.
The objectives of the initiative are:
Mobilize and direct private (mainly equity) capital to fund micro-finance activities first and foremost in India, but eventually also elsewhere in the world.
Fund/provide long term management and technical support for the development of commercially sustainable MFIs.

Self-Employed Women's Association (SEWA) India
: The Self-Employed Women's Association (SEWA) is a registered trade union working with women in the unorganised sector since 1972. It is based in Ahmedabad, India. Membership in the trade union is almost 7,00,000. Members are mostly often hawkers and vendors, home-based workers and manual laborers and service providers and small producers. The SEWA scheme covers health insurance (including a small maternity benefit component), life insurance (death and disability) and asset insurance (loss of damage to housing unit or work equipment). SEWA members can choose whether to become members of the scheme (at present, approximately 25% of all SEWA members are insured or 1,40,000 persons). Membership and claims processing is done by VimoSEWA or SEWA Insurance.

The Saraswathy Shanmugam Public Charitable Trust (SSPCT)
: The Trust is dedicated in the enlistment of rural poor through self help groups for women, youth and the old aged. Establishement of SHGs - Skill Development, entrepreneruship, vocaitonal trianing, self employemnt training are conducted for their sustainable income generation activities.
The Trust established an Industrial Trianing Center for this purpose the center accredited with the National Institute of Open Schooling, Ministry of Human Resources and Development and affilited with the National Council for Vocational Training, Ministry of Labor, Government of India for conducting vocational trainings. Nearly 200 rural youths are promoted every year for the self employment/entrepreneurship/employment.

: Udyogini is an NGO the works to build the capacity of poor women as entrepreneurs through promotion of their microenterprises. Its methodology of support is through business training, handholding, market information and linkage building, catalyzing and counselling business associations created by and for poor women. : Ujjivan is a start up microfinance company based in Bangalore. The initial focus of the organization is to provide financial services to the urban & semi-urban economically active poor women. Ujjivan will be set up in collaboration with Grameen Bank of Bangladesh. It will combine the customer relationship model of Grameen Bank with retail banking technology & processes. The program is being tested in Bangalore before it is rolled out to other cities.
Ujjivan is a profit making Non Banking Financial Company, with a minimum capital of Rs.20 Million. The objective is to run it as a viable business, which can be scaled up to a million customers in 5-7 years. The Company plans to build a unique organization to meet its social & financial objectives. |
