Acharya N G Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU)
: Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University is one of the earliest State Agricultural Universities to be established in the country in the year 1964, as a sequel to the recommendations of the Radha Krishnan Commission on University Education (1949) and the First (1955) and Second (1960) joint Indo-American teams appointed by the Government of India to study the status and future of agricultural education in the country. The Provisions of the Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University Act, 1963, provided for the transfer of College of Agriculture and Veterinary Science, established in 1946, both functioning at Hyderabad, and the College of Home Science, Hyderabad, established in 1961 and affiliated to Osmania University,the Agricultural College, Bapatla, established in 1945 and affiliated to Andhra University, Sri Venkateswara Agricultural College, Tirupati established in 1961 and the Andhra Pradesh Veterinary College, Tirupati established in 1955 and affiliated to Sri Venkateswara University were transferred to the University as constituent colleges on June 12, 1964.In addition, 41 agricultural research stations functioning under the Department of Agriculture, and four research stations of the Animal Husbandry Department were transferred to the University on July 1, 1966 and May 1967 respectively. Mandate of Institution is to train manpower needed for agricultural development of the State, constantly improve and generate technologies for increasing production in the agriculture, animal husbandry and allied sectors and assist, through the developmental departments of the Government, in the process of dissemination of improved technologies to the farmers of the State. |
